“Ara Shavaryan”: The Next President Should Untie the Housing Market’s Gordian Knot

Ara Shavaryan, representative of Northern Armenian Christians in parliament, said: The next president’s perspective should be to untie the Gordian knot of the housing market.

Ara Shavaryan, representative of Northern Armenian Christians in parliament, in a discussion about the thirteenth government’s priorities in the housing sector, said: “Given the high costs of housing provision and the prominent role that costs related to this sector play in families’ livelihoods, the perspective and policy of the next president’s management of the housing market is very important for the people. If the government and the next president, like martyr Raisi, are concerned with solving problems, the Gordian knot of the housing market will be untied and this turbulent market will reach the desired tranquility.”

Mr. Shavaryan, while pointing to housing shortage and inadequate supervision, stated: “Due to inappropriate and sometimes isolated policies in recent years, we have faced a severe shortage in housing supply. Moreover, the lack of proper oversight of the housing market transaction process, building materials, and the widespread circulation of brokers and speculators, along with economic fluctuations, led to unprecedented and unbridled growth in housing prices. Therefore, in the current critical situation, the perspective and program of the future government in this sector will be very important and decisive.”

He added, referring to laws passed regarding housing: “Fortunately, given the attention and concern that parliament representatives had in the eleventh term, effective laws such as the Housing Production Leap Law, the Law on Taxation of Vacant Houses, and the Law on Organizing the Land, Housing and Rental Market were drafted and passed, and their implementation will have a positive effect in organizing this turbulent market. Also, one of the issues that in my opinion, alongside the statements and policies of presidential election candidates in the housing sector, can be important and decisive, is the minister who is chosen to serve as the Minister of Roads and Urban Development. Therefore, I suggest that the candidates announce the names of their cabinet members before the elections are held so that people can make a better and more accurate choice.”
