Australia’s New Human Rights Sanctions Against Iran

The Australian government has imposed new human rights sanctions against some officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran system.

The Islamic Republic system has trampled on the rights of the Iranian people over the past 43 years and subjected them to oppression, tyranny, and its forced ideologies. Furthermore, over the past year following the outbreak of the popular revolutionary uprising, it has committed crimes by killing freedom-loving and innocent people, which has aroused the astonishment of people and leaders of other countries. For this reason, many Iranian officials have been placed on terrorist organization lists and sanctioned by the European Union and human rights organizations.

According to the Associated Press, the Australian government has once again imposed sanctions under the title of “human rights” against the spokesman of Iran’s law enforcement forces for allegedly being involved in what is termed “suppression of women protesting against the compulsory hijab law,” as well as the head of cyber police for what is called “censoring widespread protests.” Additionally, two television journalists were also included in these sanctions.

Penny Wong, Australia’s Foreign Minister, reiterated her claims against Iran regarding this matter and added her support for the rights of the Iranian people: “We stand with the people of Iran, and the new sanctions target those who suppress women and girls.”

The European Union’s sanctions against Iran come as Iranian officials have repeatedly deemed the statements of European Union officials regarding the human rights situation in Iran to be lacking credibility.
