Iranian statistics: 80,000 cases of "physically abusing spouses" examined in forensic medicine; 96 percent of cases are women

Information published by the Statistical Center of Iran reports a high number of female victims in "physical spousal abuse" cases in 2020.

According to ISNA's report on Tuesday, September 2, data from the Statistical Center of Iran says that last year, 96 percent of the examinations of "spousal abuse claimants" in forensic medicine were related to women.

According to the Statistical Center of Iran, last year, 80,187 cases of physical spousal abuse were examined by forensic medicine, with women accounting for 77,096 cases, or 96 percent, and men accounting for 2,991 cases, or 4 percent.

According to these statistics, a total of 585,374 examinations related to physical conflicts were conducted in forensic medicine last year, of which the share of "spousal abuse allegations" was 13.6 percent.

According to this report, "Any kind of physical, sexual, psychological abuse and neglect committed by a husband against a wife or vice versa is considered an example of spousal abuse."

According to this report, the Statistical Center of Iran has not published annual statistics for 2019, and these statistics correspond to the total statistics for the spring, summer, autumn, and winter seasons of 2019.
