Agnes Callamard becomes new Secretary General of Amnesty International

Agnes Callamard is a well-known figure in the field of human rights. Her pursuit of the Jamal Khashoggi murder case made her a household name. Agnes Callamard is remembered as a courageous woman, familiar with human rights issues, and a persistent person.

Human rights expert Agnes Callamard has been elected as the new Secretary General of Amnesty International for a four-year term.

The French human rights expert was previously the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial and arbitrary executions. Callamard was among those investigating the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Sarah Beamish, head of the international branch of this human rights organization, welcomed Agnes Callamard's readiness to accept this great challenge and said that Callamard is a woman who can courageously lead this organization in the next period.

Bayamish said that Callamard is fully qualified for the position of Secretary-General of Amnesty International with her sharp intelligence, outspokenness, and deep experience in human rights issues.

Agnes Callamard's work on extrajudicial executions at the United Nations is not limited to pursuing the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. As a UN Special Rapporteur, she has investigated human rights violations in more than 30 countries around the world.

Around ten million people worldwide support Amnesty International's work. Amnesty International has offices in more than 70 countries.
