Execution of the flogging sentence of two young men in public in Khorasan Razavi

The sentence of 74 lashes for two young men from Golbahar city, Khorasan Razavi Province, who were accused of "theft and harassment", has been carried out in public.
According to Fars News Agency, Khalilollah Barznouni, the prosecutor of Golbahar County, said that this sentence was carried out to "prevent similar crimes from occurring."
The two young men, who have also been sentenced to prison, are accused of "acting violently" and running over one of the women's feet with their motorbike while stealing a bag from two women.
The issuance and execution of flogging sentences, which are carried out in accordance with the Islamic Penal Code, has always been criticized by human rights organizations.
Corporal punishment is prohibited under international law, and the United Nations has repeatedly called on the Islamic Republic's authorities, in its resolutions on the human rights situation in Iran, to stop using corporal punishment, punishments that the international community considers "barbaric" and "medieval."
Furthermore, Iran is committed, within the framework of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, not to apply such "corporal and inhuman punishments."
However, the Iranian judiciary has implemented corporal punishment, including flogging, in many cases in recent years.
