Continued suppression of critics, security forces raid Marzieh Rasouli's home

Security agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran raided the home of veteran independent journalist Marzieh Rasouli and confiscated her personal belongings. The attack is a sign of the regime's continued repression of opponents.

On the morning of Monday, October 20, security agents of the Islamic Republic of Iran raided the home of Marzieh Rasouli, a veteran journalist and producer of the "Radio Marz" podcast, searched her home, and confiscated all of her personal electronic devices.

According to news sources, security agents confiscated all of Rasouli's and his wife's personal electronic devices after entering his home. At the same time, the "Imtada" website also reported that Rasouli had also lost access to his personal social media accounts.

The incident comes in the wake of a new wave of repression against journalists, civil society activists, and independent content producers in Iran. In recent months, security forces have attempted to silence critics and independent narratives of social change by increasing the number of summonses, arrests, and confiscations of media activists’ personal equipment.

As of the time of writing, no official explanation has been provided by government agencies regarding the reasons for the search of the journalist's home and seizure of his belongings. According to observers, this structural silence on violations of journalists' rights is part of a familiar pattern of systematic repression of opponents and critics of the Islamic Republic's regime.

In recent months, numerous reports have been published by international organizations, including Reporters Without Borders (RSF) and the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), describing Iran as one of the largest prisons of journalists in the world.

These organizations have warned that Iranian security services are using tactics such as warrantless interrogations, confiscation of work tools, and virtual control over personal accounts to pressure journalists.

Marzieh Rasouli had previously been arrested and interrogated for her media activities in previous years. She was among the journalists who focused on human narratives of Iranian society and cultural and social borders in the form of the "Radio Marz" podcast, a podcast that, according to its listeners, spoke honestly about the lives of ordinary people.

Analysts believe that the recent raid on the home of this independent journalist is a reminder that every critical voice, every independent narrative, and every freedom-loving activist in Iran is within the reach of repression.
