Tehran Governor Says Capital's Geography Does Not Have Capacity to Accept More Immigrants

The governor of Tehran says: The geography of the capital does not have the capacity to accept immigrants and a larger population.

Mohsen Mansouri, in a meeting on Thursday, November 26, between members of the Tehran Provincial Assembly of Representatives and President Ebrahim Raisi, said: "Tehran's population has increased by an average of 250,000 people annually, while the geography of the capital does not have the capacity to continue this increasing trend."

According to the ISNA news agency, he pointed out that almost no budget has been spent on the environment in Tehran province in the past two years, and stated: "A comprehensive plan should be prepared and implemented not for prohibition but for controlling and directing the population and organizing immigration at the national level."

The Iranian capital faces numerous challenges, including housing, severe air pollution, lack of sufficient green space, and lack of preparedness for natural disasters such as earthquakes.
