Medical Residency Test Participants Protest Quota for Veteran Families

News agencies in Iran reported protest gatherings by participants of the medical, dental, and pharmaceutical residency entrance examination in front of Tehran University of Medical Sciences and other cities including Ahvaz, Isfahan, Yazd, Rasht, and Mashhad.

According to ISNA news agency, based on the new procedure for residency and specialty course examinations, it has been decided that the excess 25 percent quota of martyrs’ families will now be allocated to veterans’ families and will no longer be available to open-category applicants.

Protesters against the new quota system wrote on their placards during the gathering on Sunday, June 3: “We too are children of this homeland.”

One of the participants in the gathering in front of Tehran University of Medical Sciences announced that further protests will be held in the future by those opposing the 5 percent quota for families of war martyrs and disabled veterans below 25 percent.
