Joe Biden officially announces his candidacy for the Democratic Party's presidential election

The long-awaited event has become official: Joe Biden will officially be Donald Trump's main opponent in the US presidential election next November. The majority of the party's core supports the 77-year-old politician.

The US Democrats officially announced Joe Biden as their primary candidate for the US presidential election on November 3, during a ceremony on Tuesday evening, August 18 (local time), to face Donald Trump (74). Most of the party's core members expressed their support, mostly through virtual participation, for the 77-year-old politician and former US vice president.

Joe Biden welcomed his candidacy with emotional words, leaving no doubt that he would officially accept the nomination on Thursday, the last day of the Democratic convention.

On the second day of the party's convention, former presidents Jimmy Carter (1977-1981) and Bill Clinton (1993-2001) announced their full support for Joe Biden.

"Biden has the experience, the vision, and the ability to bring us together and make America great again," Carter said in an audio message, adding that he was confident that Joe Biden was sincere and determined to serve America.

Bill Clinton sharply criticized Donald Trump, 74. "We live in a time when the White House should be a headquarters for command, but instead it has become a center of chaos and disorder," he said in a video message.

According to Clinton, "There is constant chaos in the White House, and only one thing remains unchanged: Trump's determination to evade responsibility and shift the blame."

If Joe Biden wins the November election, Kamala Harris will be the first black woman to serve as vice president. Ms. Harris' nomination as Joe Biden's running mate is set to be officially announced on Wednesday (August 19).
