Amin Afshar Naderi released on bail

Amin Afshar Naderi, a Christian convert imprisoned in Evin Prison who had been on a hunger strike in protest since July 5, was released on bail from Ward 4 of the prison today.

The Human Rights Activists in Iran News Agency reported that today, Tuesday, August 23, 2017, Amin Afshar Naderi, a Christian convert prisoner, was released from Hall 3, Ward 4 of Evin Prison, on bail of 270 million Tomans.

Mr. Afshar Naderi, a Christian convert prisoner, had been on a hunger strike since July 5, 2017, in protest of the court's verdict.

This prisoner has been sentenced to 15 years in prison by a verdict of Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahmadzadeh.

Mr. Afshar Naderi will be released on bail until the appeals court issues its verdict.

It is necessary to explain that Amin Afshar Naderi was first arrested in 2014 on charges of being a member of a house church, and after 40 days of interrogation and solitary confinement in Ward 209 of Evin Prison, he was released on bail of 100 million Tomans.

Mr. Naderi was arrested again on September 25, 2016, along with 13 other citizens in Firuzkooh, and spent 82 days in solitary confinement in Ward 209. He was then transferred to the 4th Training Center of Evin Prison.

A source familiar with the case said: “On the day of the arrest, 14 people, including 7 men and 7 women, a 13-year-old and a 55-year-old woman, were arrested. Five of them, named “Rameil Bat Tamerz, Amin Afshar Naderi, Hadi Asgari, Mohammad Turkman Dehnavi and Amir Saman Dasht,” were transferred to Evin Prison, and the rest were released on bail. However, later, intelligence officers raided the homes of three of the detainees and confiscated some of their belongings after searching the homes. A number of them were also summoned to the intelligence agency and interrogated.”

On June 11 of this year, the court investigating the charges against one of the defendants in this case, Hadi Asgari, sentenced him to 10 years in prison and Amin Afshar Nadari to 15 years in prison. The charges against the two Christian converts were described as “acting against national security by forming house churches and propagating Christianity.”
