Gas condensate pipeline explosion in Fars Province

The 10-inch gas condensate pipe of the Parsian Refinery in the city of Khozi, Varavari district, Mehr county, has exploded.

Alamdar Babaei, CEO of the Parsian Gas Refinery, announced in an interview with the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (IBC) on Thursday evening, December 8, that the refinery's 10-inch gas condensate pipeline had exploded after being hit by a bulldozer.

This pipeline transports 32,000 barrels per day (nearly 12 million barrels annually, worth $900 million) of gas condensate produced from onshore gas fields in southwestern Iran to the Assaluyeh region.

Mr. Babaei continued to say that there were no casualties in the incident and that rescue and operational forces are currently at the scene of the incident and have cut off the transmission line from the source.

The report says the bulldozer was creating a path for the construction of a second gas condensate transmission line when it damaged the pipeline and caused it to explode.

Before the US sanctions, South Korea and Japan were the most important customers of gas condensate produced from the Parsian Refinery.

China is now the only customer for Iranian gas condensate. Iran has also swapped several cargoes of gas condensate for Venezuelan heavy oil in recent months.

The Parsian Refinery refines more than 8 percent of the country's gas and 5 percent of the gas condensate produced.
