Iran is among the countries with the lowest marriage age for girls

The secretary of the meeting reviewed the principles of those in favor and against the plan to increase the minimum age of marriage (child marriage), defining child marriage from the perspective of international law and referring to Iran's situation and historical record in terms of the minimum age of marriage for Girls and boys in different legislative periods, emphasized the necessity of addressing this important issue in the current situation in Iran and said: "Currently, Iran has the lowest marriage age for girls, 13 years, among the countries in the world after Guinea, where the marriage age is 12 years, which could lead to negative reactions in the international community towards Iran."
