For the first time in Iran, electricity imports exceeded exports.

In Iran, statistics published by the Ministry of Energy indicate that electricity imports increased by 67 percent in Farvardin 1401. Electricity exports also decreased by 54 percent during this period, making Iran a net importer of electricity for the first time.

A spokesman for the Iranian electricity industry said in an interview with the Young Journalists Club: "In the current situation, the amount of electricity imports is higher than the amount of electricity exports; so that we have about 500 to 600 megawatts of imports and about 300 to 400 megawatts of electricity exports. There is no problem in supplying electricity now, but certainly in the event of restrictions, priority will be given to supplying electricity within the country."

It is worth noting that the Iranian Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade had also said some time ago: "Iran is facing a shortage of 10,000 megawatts of electricity in the industrial sector, and to provide this amount of electricity, investment by large companies over four years is needed, which "has already begun." He did not mention the amount of this investment or the financial resources required for it.

Voice of America has previously examined the problem of managing the country's water and electricity resources in several news reports, and announced that experts are warning of water shortages and power outages throughout the spring and summer in this province and neighboring provinces.
