Deadlock in Automotive Industry Creates National Humiliation

Dr. Bahrami spoke about national humiliation regarding the deadlock in the automotive industry.

Dr. “Ata Bahrami,” an economic analyst, discussed the national humiliation resulting from the deadlock in the automotive industry on the “Nawed Eghtesadi” (Economic 90) program.

In his remarks, he stated: “We have reached a deadlock in the automotive industry. This means that with the strange cars we produce, we have created national humiliation. Especially for the new generation, this gap becomes increasingly apparent. In neighboring countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, and Armenia, everything exists. Even Yemen, which is the poorest Arab country and despite being engaged in war, has no currency problems, yet advanced automobiles are available there. An Iranian who travels to these countries feels a sense of degradation when seeing their automotive industry.”

According to Dr. Bahrami’s statements, contrary to Mr. Hamati’s view that automobiles are non-essential goods, the automobile is the most important movable asset in every family’s life. Cars produced in Iran have been manufactured with the same molds and high error rates from the past to the present, and this is considered a crisis. In Iran, officials do not think about solving a problem until a crisis emerges and reaches its peak. Now the automotive industry has reached the peak of its crisis.

The price of foreign automobiles with many options, even in some cases that are “autonomous,” is cheaper than the price of Iranian cars. The automotive industry in Iran has created a national crisis, and much of the inflation is also due to the production of these automobiles.

According to Dr. Bahrami’s view, if automobile imports were liberalized, car prices and expectations would decline, and as a result, inflation would also decrease. This crisis should be resolved at the macroeconomic level of the country, not at the intermediate level. According to Dr. Bahrami, the system has only preserved itself over the past several decades.
