Dean of Allameh University's Faculty of Economics dismissed for unveiling book by deceased political prisoner

IRNA reported that Hossein Salimi, the president of Allameh Tabatabaei University, dismissed Hassan Taei, the dean of the Faculty of Economics, after "a book unveiling incident," and his farewell ceremony was held on Thursday, July 26.

On June 12, 2019, the unveiling ceremony of Hoda Saber's book "Fropashi" was held at the Faculty of Economics of Allameh Tabatabaei University, and sociologist Saeed Madani and faculty member Farshad Momeni gave speeches about it. It was reported on social media that the speech was followed by a minute of silence in memory of the victims of 2009.

Political prisoner Hoda Saber died on June 11, 2011, after being beaten by prison officers while severely weakened by a hunger strike.

Saeed Madani, a writer and sociologist, was also sentenced to six years in prison and 10 years of exile to Bandar Abbas in Branch 36 of the Revolutionary Court in 2011.

The appointment of Hossein Salimi as president of Allameh Tabatabaei University by Jafar Tofighi, then acting minister of science in the Hassan Rouhani administration, in 2013 was met with much publicity from government supporters, who viewed it as a step towards removing the university from the security environment. However, criticism of him has recently increased on social media.
