Butch Wilmore: I took the opportunity on the space station to study God's Word

Astronaut Butch Wilmore spoke about his experience studying God's Word on the space station and strengthening his faith in Jesus Christ.

Butch Wilmore and Sonny Williams, two American astronauts, traveled to the International Space Station in June 2024 aboard the Boeing Starliner capsule, but during the trip, the propulsion system suffered a technical failure and a helium leak, and NASA delayed their return as a precautionary measure.

NASA then announced that the Starliner capsule would have to return to Earth empty and unmanned because the return flight could be dangerous, and as a result, Williams and Wilmore were stranded on the International Space Station. They were supposed to have an 8-day mission in space and then return to Earth, but due to the technical glitch, they ended up staying in space for 286 days.

They eventually returned to Earth after a 17-hour journey after nine months aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule. It is worth noting that despite the difficult conditions these two astronauts faced, they participated in the US presidential election and voted.

Wilmore and Williams held a press conference after returning to Earth, and when asked by reporters what lessons they learned during this long journey, Butch Wilmore said, "I can honestly say that this experience has strengthened my faith in Jesus Christ. God is working out His plan and purpose to show His glory throughout the universe, and each of us has a role to play in this journey."

"I say this because I am sure that He is watching over everything. Some things only seem to be good for man, and some things are not so pleasant, but from my perspective they are all part of God's plan. I took advantage of my time on the International Space Station to study more and preach the gospel."

Williams said in the interview that he missed his wife and two dogs, and Wilmore said that more than anything, he was looking forward to seeing his wife and three children.
