Statement by eleven countries at the Board of Governors meeting regarding Israel's attack on Iran

Eleven countries issued a joint statement at the Board of Governors meeting condemning Israel's attack on Iran.

Eleven member states of the IAEA Board of Governors condemned Israel's military attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, calling it a gross violation of international law, and called for immediate action by the IAEA and the Security Council to counter the repetition of these aggressive attacks.

The statement, which was issued hours ago at an extraordinary meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors, reads: "We condemn the Israeli regime's aggression against Iran, including military attacks on nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards, which are a flagrant violation of international law, the UN Charter, and the IAEA Statute."

"We strongly believe that these military attacks, in addition to threatening international peace and security, undermine confidence in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), constitute a blatant disregard for the International Atomic Energy Agency's safeguards system, and jeopardize the further development of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes."

Citing the resolutions of the IAEA General Conference, the countries signing this statement emphasized: "Any armed and threatening attack against nuclear facilities dedicated to peaceful purposes is considered a violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Agency's Statute."

The countries mentioned, while recalling that Iran is a non-nuclear state party to the NPT and that the targeted nuclear facility is covered by the Agency's Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement, added: "We recall Iran's long-standing and strong commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and are deeply concerned about the widespread consequences of such military attacks on nuclear facilities under safeguards."

The signatories of the statement, in addition to calling on the Israeli regime to stop its attacks against Iran, also called on the IAEA's Board of Governors, Secretariat, and Director General to take the necessary measures to prevent the attacks from continuing.

The statement concludes by emphasizing: "We call on the Director General to immediately report to the Board of Governors on all consequences of Israeli attacks on nuclear sites and facilities under Agency safeguards in Iran and to report any further acts or threats of aggression to the UN Security Council."

The statement was issued by the Russian Federation, China, Pakistan, Iraq, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cuba, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Venezuela and the Bolivarian Republic of.
