“More Than 10,000 Children Killed or Injured in Wars”

The number of children killed in wars around the world is on the rise. According to a United Nations report, in the past calendar year (2017) more than 10,000 children were killed or injured during wars around the world.

Among the cases of violations of children’s rights recorded in the past calendar year were sexual violence, attacks on schools and hospitals, or sending children to war zones as child soldiers.

The UN report stated that 6,000 cases of violence against children were perpetrated by state security forces. Among these countries, Myanmar, Syria, and Yemen were reported.

15,000 cases of violence against children by armed groups were also reported, which are engaged in various areas with state forces. The highest number of such violence, with 2,896 cases, was committed against children in Syria.

The report also stated that the rate of violence against children in 2017 compared to the previous year increased sharply in countries such as Myanmar, Iraq, Central Africa, and Congo.

In 2016, the number of children killed or injured in armed conflicts around the world was reported to be around 8,000, which was close to 2,000 fewer than in 2017.

Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his concern about the sharp increase in violence against children around the world.
