Reza Pahlavi's emphasis on "eliminating discrimination" and the role of all ethnicities and religions in the future Iran

Prince Reza Pahlavi announced the design of fundamental principles to ensure the elimination of ethnic and religious discrimination in the future Iran.

At a press conference in Washington today, Friday, January 16, Prince Reza Pahlavi once again outlined a framework for Iran's future in which eliminating ethnic, religious, and racial discrimination is one of the fundamental principles, and all of Iranian society (including representatives of different ethnicities and religions) must play a role in shaping it.

Emphasizing that Iran's future must be built on equal rights, freedom of choice, and peaceful coexistence of all citizens, he said that these principles could be a roadmap for the transition to a democratic and inclusive system.

Pahlavi divided the principles that, in his opinion, should be the basis for the movement of society seeking change in Iran into four key axes:

  • Iran's territorial integrity
  • Separation of religion and state
  • Equality of all citizens and their individual rights
  • The right to freely choose one's political destiny

He emphasized that these principles will guarantee an end to historical discrimination and prevent its recurrence, and that the rejection of religious, ethnic, and racial discrimination must be clearly and enforceably included in Iran's future legislation.

In another part of his speech, Pahlavi referred to the country’s ethnic and religious diversity and said that the participation of representatives of these groups is essential to ensure full and practical equality. He also emphasized that the belief in the “separation of religion from the state” is not limited to a specific movement and exists among a wide range of religious and civil activists; for example, he pointed to the views of some critical religious figures, such as “Molavi Abdul Hamid,” and said: “These views indicate the acceptance of secularism as a practical solution for managing society in the future Iran.”

The prince also emphasized: “The desire of the Iranian people to communicate and interact with neighboring countries, including Israel, is fundamentally different from the policies of the Islamic Republic.” He also added: “This view is rooted in the shared history and culture of Iran.” Reza Pahlavi noted that Iranians are “the heirs of Cyrus the Great” and have a history of sheltering Jews in their cultural repertoire.

The son of the last Shah of Iran also emphasized in his speech the role of opposition unity and the need to create an inclusive framework for all opposition groups.

Opposition activists and political analysts believe that while the movement opposing the Islamic Republic within the country represents diverse sectors, efforts to unify views around fundamental principles such as human rights, equality, and freedom can help create a “democratic consensus.” Independent studies and analyses have also shown that, despite ideological differences among opposition groups, embracing shared values and guaranteeing minority rights can pave the way for a peaceful transition.

In summary, Reza Pahlavi once again sent his message to the international community and within the country, emphasizing the realization of equal rights for all Iranian citizens and supporting the role of all ethnicities and religions in the political process: "The future of Iran must be shaped on the basis of freedom, justice, and mutual respect so that discrimination will be forever erased from the page of Iranian politics and society."
