Setting the date for the third court session to hear the charges against Amir Hossein Moradi and Ali Younesi

Attorney Mustafa Nili said that the third court session to hear the charges against Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, students of Sharif University of Technology, will be held on Sunday, April 19, at the Revolutionary Court. He also stated that unfortunately, the legal order to convert our clients' temporary detention orders has not been heeded, and the families were told that a regular ward is not a good place and that for the sake of the two detained students, they have been kept in ward 209.
According to HRANA News Agency, citing Emedat, Mostafa Nili, the lawyer for Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, students of Sharif University of Technology, announced that a hearing will be held on the case of these two Olympiad students next week.
The lawyer stated in this regard: “The next hearing of the case of Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, two detained students of Sharif University, which is the third hearing of the case, will be held on Sunday, April 18. Unfortunately, the legal ruling on converting the temporary detention order into a temporary detention order has not been heeded, given that more than two years have passed since the arrest, and the illegal detention of Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi continues.”
Nili added: “Senior officials of the judicial system repeatedly call on judges and investigators to use temporary detention orders as little as possible in their speeches, but in this case we see that even the law is not being taken into account. Following last week’s request from the head of the Revolutionary Court and the appointment made by him, yesterday, Monday, the lawyers and the families of the two young men visited the Revolutionary Court’s precinct. After a two-hour wait, we were told that the Revolutionary Court would first accept the families and then the lawyers for a meeting.”
The lawyer continued: “The families’ presence was accompanied by a meeting with the head of the Revolutionary Court that lasted more than an hour, but unfortunately, no response was given to the legal request to change the temporary detention order during this meeting. After the families left, we intended to present our legal request, but the head of the court refused to meet with the lawyers in the case. The head of the Revolutionary Court’s office quoted him as saying that he had not spoken to the lawyers and had discussed everything with the families.”
.
Mustafa Nili stated: "According to the families, someone other than the head of the Revolutionary Court was present at this meeting, who at the beginning treated the families badly and the meeting took the form of an interrogation! The families said that when we protested this treatment, they changed the way they spoke, but still, no response was given to the original request, which was to change the appointment of the two young men."
According to him, unfortunately, this disregard for the law continues and considering the quick determination of the hearing time, it seems that they have no reason to give in to this legal matter. When the families asked why these two young men were not sent to a regular ward after two years and were still kept in security ward 209, the answer was that the regular ward is not a good place and for the sake of the children, we have kept them in ward 209! In this case, the bailiffs have emphasized that these two young men should be kept in ward 209 until a final verdict is issued, and unfortunately, the judicial system has given in to this demand and in response to the constant protests of these two students, their families and lawyers that they should be released from ward 209, they are presenting such justifications.”
Ali Younesi, a computer engineering student, and Amir Hossein Moradi, a physics student at Sharif University of Technology, were arrested by Ministry of Intelligence agents on April 12, 2020, and transferred to the agency's detention center, known as Ward 209 of Evin Prison. It is said that the arrest of these students was carried out by plainclothes officers without a warrant and accompanied by beatings.
On May 6, 2020, Gholamhossein Esmaili, spokesman for the Iranian judiciary, accused these students of collaborating with the People's Mojahedin (MEK).
A short while later, Aida Younesi, Ali Younesi's sister, denied these accusations by posting a video on social media, citing her parents' prison history in the 1960s as the reason for the accusations. In September 2019, Aida Younesi reported that her brother was being pressured to make a televised confession. In November 2019, Ali Younesi contracted the coronavirus and was returned to a multi-person cell after recovering.
Regarding these students, it is worth mentioning that Amir Hossein Moradi is the silver medalist of the National Astronomy Olympiad of 2017 and Ali Younesi is the silver medalist of the National Astronomy Olympiad of 2016 and the gold medalist of the Astronomy Olympiad of 2016. Ali Younesi also brought honor to Iran by winning the gold medal at the 12th World Astronomy and Astrophysics Olympiad held in China.
