Threats to Iranian civil activists living in Türkiye

According to the BBC, a group of Iranian civil society activists living in Turkey who support the nationwide protests in Iran have told BBC Persian that they have been severely threatened by the Islamic Republic's security agencies in recent days.

According to documents provided to the BBC, a number of key activists have received "death threats."

In recent days, these individuals have received threatening text and audio messages, warning them that they will face serious consequences if they do not stop supporting the protests in Iran, as well as holding protest rallies in Turkey against the Islamic Republic.

At least three civil society activists have also told the BBC that pressure on their families in Iran has increased over the past few days and have called on families to take steps to encourage their children to return to Iran.

This is while a number of these activists, who did not want their names to be mentioned due to security concerns, have been prosecuted by the judiciary on charges of attempting to harm the integrity or independence of the country.

In recent years, Türkiye has witnessed the assassination and kidnapping of Iranian dissidents residing in the country by Iranian security agencies, some of which have been thwarted and exposed by the Turkish intelligence service.
