Tehran in danger: Delta virus circulating and ICUs full

The deputy head of the Tehran province's coronavirus response headquarters said that the predominant coronavirus in the province is the Delta strain, or the Indian type of coronavirus. According to Nader Tavakoli, ICUs are full and the number of outpatients has also increased.

The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) reported in an interview with the deputy head of the coronavirus response headquarters in Tehran province that the predominant coronavirus in this province is the Delta strain.

Dr. Nader Tavakoli said that the number of hospitalizations due to the coronavirus has increased, with about 1,500 new hospitalizations occurring daily, and currently 6,700 patients with COVID-19 are hospitalized in the entire province of Tehran.

According to the deputy head of the Tehran Coronavirus Headquarters, the number of outpatients has also increased, and on Sunday, July 10 alone, about 8,600 patients were treated on an outpatient basis.

Dr. Tavakoli, while stating that "naturally, in these circumstances, the ICUs are full," assured that this crisis will be managed by opening new ICUs and increasing bed capacity in hospitals.

According to the official, Tehran is not yet in a red zone and businesses are continuing, although some are operating part-time. Dr. Tavakoli said that until the vaccination is complete, no other action can be taken other than adhering to the protocols.

It was previously announced that a telephone system had been set up to report empty hospital beds, and people could call a phone number based on their location to find out the nearest hospital with an empty bed. According to the deputy director of the Tehran province's coronavirus headquarters, the system is still active.
