Tehran residents breathed the most polluted air this year in the past 24 hours

According to a spokesperson for the Tehran Air Quality Control Organization, from 8:00 a.m. on January 13 to 8:00 a.m. on January 14, Tehran residents breathed the most polluted air this year. Tehran's air pollution index during this period was 174, above the dangerous level.

Tehran residents have had the most polluted air in the past 24 hours since the beginning of 2020. According to a spokesperson for the Tehran Air Quality Control Company, from 8 a.m. on Tuesday, January 13, to 8 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, Tehran's air pollution index was 174.

When the air pollution index reaches above 150, it is considered dangerous for everyone.

Leila Nazari told Mehr News Agency that the pollution will likely continue today and tonight.

According to this report, January was the unhealthiest month of the year in Tehran.

According to Ms. Nazari, from January 1st to today, January 14th, Tehran has only been in healthy conditions for three days and has been in unhealthy conditions for all citizens for 11 days. It has also been in unhealthy conditions for sensitive groups for 10 days.

One of the most recent causes of Tehran's air pollution is the use of diesel fuel in power plants.

Energy Minister Bijan Zanganeh has confirmed this and said that people should consume less electricity "so that we are not forced to use diesel fuel to fuel power plants."

Tehran's severe air pollution yesterday comes at a time when most areas of the city were experiencing power outages the previous day.
