Attack on the Faculty of Fine Arts and the destruction of students' instruments

Security guards at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Tehran attacked the faculty and broke students' instruments.

Last Wednesday, a video was posted on social media showing a group of students from the Faculty of Fine Arts performing an English song. Social media users responded positively to the video and encouraged them.

After this incident and the reposting of the aforementioned music video on social media, on Saturday, May 13, the security forces of this faculty, who were present at the Department of Drama and Music of the Fine Arts Campus, got into a physical fight with the students under the pretext of not observing the hijab, in which several professors were also injured in the fight. The security forces also attempted to break the students' musical instruments.

Students also chanted protest slogans in response to the clash. It should be noted that the University of Tehran's public relations department has not yet responded to the events that occurred at the faculty.

Regarding the behavior of the security guards, the students stated that they were treated in the worst possible way and with the use of vulgar language. From a legal perspective, the university security guards are responsible for physical security, selective interrogation, and recruitment, and in no part of the laws and regulations, the university security guards are given the authority, jurisdiction, or power to behave in such a way with students.

Today, music students and artists strongly condemned the beatings, attacks on students and music professors, and the breaking of their instruments by the so-called security forces at the Faculty of Fine Arts, and demanded the identification and strict action against the perpetrators and instigators of this shameless act.
