Two-year prison sentence for women's rights activist upheld in appeals court; crime: protesting mandatory hijab

The two-year prison sentence of women's rights activist Raha Ahmadi, previously issued by the Revolutionary Court, was upheld by the Court of Appeal.

Ali Sharifzad, Raha Ahmadi's defense lawyer, announced on Twitter that the two-year prison sentence of the women's rights activist, previously issued by Branch 15 of the Revolutionary Court on charges of gathering and collusion, has been confirmed by Branch 36 of the Court of Appeals. The women's rights activist was among the women who protested against the mandatory hijab in Iran.

According to the lawyer, this women's rights activist, who has been in temporary detention for about 9 months, has not been sent on leave even for a single day.

The US State Department says that the Iranian regime has arrested thousands of protesters, civil activists, and representatives of workers and other trade unions in the last two years.

The United States has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of protesters and civil activists, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by the ruling regime in that country.
