Ruling on Association with Someone Who Has Become Christian

According to a cleric’s statement, if there is no hope for guiding someone who has become Christian, one should sever relations with them.

Christians, who are officially recognized individuals in Iran, have been subjected to oppression and persecution by the system from the past to the present. Many of them have been arrested, tortured, and some have even been killed by the system.

Christians, who form a large population worldwide, are considered by the Islamic Republic system as infidels and impure individuals with whom association is not permissible unless they are guided to Islam.

In this regard, a video has been circulated on social media in which a cleric, responding to the question “What is the ruling on association with someone who has become Christian,” states: “If there is hope for their guidance, association should continue, but if there is no hope for their guidance and they may negatively influence our lives, then association must certainly be severed. It should not reach a point where lives become intertwined. Because according to some jurists, People of the Book are completely in the category of infidels and are impure. Regarding association with People of the Book, caution or avoidance must be observed; keeping distance from these individuals results in greater wellbeing for people.”

This way of thinking among jurists not only spreads hatred among people, but also considers Christians, a significant portion of whom live in Iran, as deviant and impure.
