On Sunday, June 1, a 12-year-old child in Marivan city committed suicide by hanging himself and died. In a similar incident, on Thursday, May 19, a 15-year-old child laborer in Isfahan committed suicide by hanging himself and died. The girl, named Najmeh, started selling on the street when she was less than 6 years old. According to statistical reports from the Forensic Medicine Organization, the share of Iranian teenagers in annual suicides is reported to be more than 7 percent.
According to HRANA news agency, citing Kurdpa, on Sunday, June 1, 1402, a 12-year-old child in Marivan city committed suicide by hanging himself and lost his life.
The child has been identified as Mohammad Badreh, son of Abdullah and a native of Marivan. No information has been obtained about the reasons and motives for this child's suicide.
According to another report, quoted by Hamshahri, on Thursday, May 19, 1402, a 15-year-old child laborer in Isfahan committed suicide by hanging himself and died.
Navid Masali, CEO of the Tolo Mehr and Dosti NGO, a non-profit organization that specializes in supporting child laborers, said while announcing the news: “We identified Najmeh when she was about 6 or 7 years old on Jolfa Street in Isfahan. At that time, Najmeh sold flowers and peddled, and sometimes played musical instruments with her father. Her family is a foreigner with 8 children and their financial situation is not very good. Her siblings are still working.”
He continued: "Last Thursday afternoon, after a family dispute and argument, Najmeh went to her room and hanged herself with a piece of cloth. As we followed up, one of Najmeh's distant relatives had died some time ago, and she was constantly following up on this issue on social media."
Pointing out that child laborers grow up on the streets from a young age and suffer a lot of harm, Masali said: "Support institutions such as the family do not provide much support to child laborers, and for this reason, these children are more vulnerable to harm, and when they reach adolescence, they may suffer serious harm, including suicide, as unfortunately most of them have knife marks on their hands, or they take pills and commit successful and unsuccessful suicides."
The Forensic Medicine Organization has stated that the share of Iranian teenagers in annual suicides is more than 7%.
