On the eve of the anniversary of Navid Afkari's execution; Saeed Afkari beaten and arrested

On Sunday, September 11, on the eve of the anniversary of Navid Afkari's execution, his brother Saeed Afkari was arrested at the entrance to the city of Shiraz by plainclothes forces, beaten, and taken to an unknown location.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, on Sunday, September 11, Saeed Afkari, brother of Navid Afkari, was arrested at the Quran Gate in Shiraz by 6 plainclothes forces and taken to an unknown location.

Mr. Afkari's arrest came on the eve of the anniversary of Navid Afkari's execution, accompanied by a beating. Mr. Afkari had announced in a tweet yesterday that security forces were pressuring Afkari's family and were trying to prevent the anniversary of Navid Afkari's execution from being held. Following the publication of this tweet, Mr. Afkari's personal account has been inaccessible.

It is also said that during Mr. Afkari's arrest, security forces also beat his sister, Elham Afkari.

Navid Afkari and Vahid Afkari were arrested on September 16, 2018, and Habib Afkari on December 12, 2018, in connection with the nationwide protests of August 2018. These individuals have been repeatedly beaten and tortured during interrogations to extract confessions.

These citizens were tried by the Revolutionary Court and the Shiraz Criminal Court, and Navid Afkari was sentenced to two executions, 6 years and 6 months in prison, and 74 lashes, Vahid Afkari to 54 years and 6 months in prison, and 74 lashes, and Habib Afkari to 27 years and 3 months in prison, and 74 lashes.

Iranian wrestler Navid Afkari was finally executed in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, 2020, in Adel Abad Prison in Shiraz, despite serious uncertainties in his case and a global wave of support for him.
