On the eve of the 1,000th day of the American student's detention in Iran; from the investigation into the Qajar dynasty to imprisonment behind bars in Evin Prison

The wife of Xiu Wang, a Chinese-American prisoner in Iran, has called her husband's imprisonment by the Islamic Republic unjust in a note and called for the international community's help in securing his release.

"Hawa Q's" note was published in the Washington Post on Friday, as the number of days her husband has spent in Evin Prison in Tehran will soon reach the thousandth.

Zhiyu Wang went to Iran in 2016 to conduct his research project on governance and bureaucracy during the Qajar era, but more than two years ago he was arrested on espionage charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

In line with the United States' twelve conditions for changing the Islamic Republic's behavior, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has repeatedly called on Tehran authorities to immediately release American prisoners held in Iran.

Last month, in two tweets marking the anniversary of the release of American hostages from Iran, he posted a photo of them, implying that hostage-taking has been intertwined with the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran from the very beginning.
