The meeting on religious freedom and human rights in Iran called for sanctions on Iranian regime officials and facilitating the acceptance of religious refugees.

Calls for sanctions against Islamic Republic officials and facilitating the acceptance of religious refugees were among the most important issues emphasized by speakers at the conference on religious freedom and human rights in Iran.

At the meeting, which was held in Washington on Wednesday, June 25, Senator Ted Cruz, referring to the persecution of Christians around the world, said: "The Iranian regime raids the homes of Christians, arrests and imprisons them."

Referring to the persecution of Iranian Christians in prisons and their persecution, he emphasized: "America has been and will be with these people. We know that truth will prevail."

Also, US Ambassador for Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, emphasizing that the Islamic Republic is a violator of human rights and religious freedom, said: "We are working to condemn the Iranian regime in international forums and continue to sanction human rights violators using all the tools at our disposal."

Tony Perkins, Commissioner of the Commission on International Religious Freedom, was another speaker who called on the US government to continue sanctions on Iranian officials involved in human rights and religious freedom violations and to expedite the admission of refugees persecuted by the Iranian regime.

Republican Representative Steve King also said, "The Islamic Republic has created a religious dictatorship and is promoting extremism. I urge the State Department to continue to pressure the Iranian regime to release Christian converts and accept more religious refugees."

Earlier, on May 1 of this year, the State Department's Special Advisor on Religious Minorities in the Middle East, South, and Central Asia criticized the continued persecution of minorities in Iran and called on the Islamic Republic to immediately release all prisoners of conscience and respect religious freedom.
