300 academic and civil society activists call on Biden to continue "firm policy" towards the Iranian government

On Wednesday, 300 Iranian academic and civil society activists living in the United States wrote a letter to US President Joe Biden, calling for the continuation of a "firm policy" towards the Iranian government.
The "Iranian Experts Committee for Policy Towards Iran" said in a statement that these Iranian academic and civil activists, in their letter, referred to the "evil dimensions" of the Islamic Republic's government and its "human rights record" in suppressing dissent "at home and abroad," and called for the US president's "strong and immediate" support for "the Iranian people's aspiration for a secular, democratic, and non-nuclear republic."
This letter was published in Vienna at the same time as the first round of indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, with the participation of the member states of the JCPOA nuclear agreement, aimed at lifting sanctions on Iran and returning the country to its nuclear commitments within the framework of this agreement.
The signatories of the letter further called on the US President not to lift "any sanctions" and not to grant "privileges" to the Islamic Republic government unless it "verifiably ceases its human rights abuses in Iran, terrorism abroad, and destructive support for its proxy group in the region."
Kazem Kazerunian, a professor at the University of Connecticut and one of the main organizers of this letter, told Radio Farda, "Given the developments taking place in Iran and considering that President Biden is involved in shaping his own policy towards Iran, we wanted to convey the realities inside Iran, especially the Iranian people who are being oppressed by the government, to the President (of the United States).
Referring to the Islamic Republic's record of repression inside Iran, Kazem Kazerunian added: "We think we are the main voice of the Iranian people. This is what we hear from our families, relatives, and friends in Iran."
