Violent clashes between protesters and riot police in Tehran; protests continue in several other Iranian cities

Reports and videos received indicate that a group of protesters in Tehran have begun demonstrating in response to the death of Mahsa Amini, who died during her arrest by the Ershad patrol, and that counter-riot forces have taken to the streets to suppress the protesters.
According to one of these videos, a fierce clash is underway between counter-riot forces and protesters in Tehran's Valiasr Square, during which protesters throw stones at a water cannon.
In other videos, protesters on Keshavarz Boulevard chant slogans such as "Death to the dictator," "Enough Iranians/Show your zeal," "We will fight, we will die/We will take back Iran," "Cannons, tanks, fireworks/The mullah must disappear," and "This is the last message/The goal of the regime itself."
A rally was also held on Hijab Street, where protesters chanted the slogan "Women, Life, and Freedom."
Images from this march, as well as protest gatherings at Tehran, Beheshti, and Allameh universities, show a group of women removing their headscarves and waving them in the air as a sign of opposition to the mandatory hijab.
Near Valiasr Square, protesters also chanted slogans such as "Death to the dictator," "Death to the Islamic Republic," "I will kill, I will kill/Whoever killed my sister," "Our shame, our shame/Our leader," and "The eyes and light of Iran/Kurdistan, Kurdistan."
A group of women present at the rally also removed their headscarves.
Another video shows a "motorcycle" being set on fire, said to have belonged to one of the plainclothes officers, although Radio Farda cannot confirm the authenticity of this video.
In other videos, police officers are seen attacking protesters with batons and motorbikes, trying to disperse them. Protesters also attacked police vehicles in Valiasr Square, trying to overturn them.
These protests are being held in response to calls made on Sunday by various civil society groups.
There has not yet been a report on the number of people arrested or injured in today's protests in Tehran.
Images and videos received also show that protesters in the cities of Mashhad, Rasht, Paveh, Kamyaran, Bukan, Isfahan, Karaj, and Takab also took to the streets and chanted slogans against the Islamic Republic's officials and in protest of the death of Mahsa Amini.
Protesters in Gohardasht, Karaj, chanted: "Fight until we fight/We are all Mahsa."
Meanwhile, the human rights website "Hengao" reported that "in Bukan, a 10-year-old girl was shot in the head and seriously injured. The girl's condition is reported to be critical."
On the other hand, the "Netblocks" website reported on its Twitter page that internet connectivity in the city of Sanandaj, the capital of Kurdistan Province, has been almost completely cut off since 4:00 PM on Monday.
This site attributed the internet outage in Sanandaj to the spread of protests over the death of Mahsa Amini during her arrest by the Ershad patrol police.
Shooting at protesters in Divandareh
Reports from Divandarreh in Kurdistan Province indicate that during protests in the city over the death of Mahsa (Zina) Amini, a 22-year-old young woman who died while being detained by the Ershad Patrol, security officers fired on protesters, injuring several people .
Received videos show that widespread protests have been taking place in the city since Monday morning.
Reports indicate that the physical condition of one of the injured in Divandareh, named "Fawad Qadim", is critical and he has been transferred to Sanandaj for treatment. Activists of the "Civil Protest Bazaar" have reported the number of injured as eight, while the human rights news site "Hengaw" has reported the number as 10.
He said that "after the burial of Gina Amini, the atmosphere in the city of Saqqez was completely security-related, and that day the city was on a full strike. Yesterday, it was in a semi-closed state and the presence of security forces was very heavy, and according to the public call, people did not go to the shops today, and the strike was fully held."
Simultaneously with protest rallies in Kurdish areas, some published videos show counter-insurgency forces being dispatched to cities where the intensity of the clashes over the past two days has been highest, including Oshnavieh, Bukan, Piranshahr, and Mahabad, among other cities.
Protests at universities
Continuing the protests over the death of Mahsa Amini, a group of students from Tehran's Amirkabir University also gathered on the university campus on Monday and chanted slogans against the Islamic Republic's authorities. Their gathering turned violent when Basij forces and university security intervened.
The received videos show that students at this university chanted slogans such as "I will kill, I will kill/Whoever killed my sister" and "Basiji, go away."
Students of Amirkabir University (Polytechnic) also issued a statement and wrote: "The systematic and brutal murder of Mahsa Amini by the Ershad Patrol officers is a symbol of 44 years of repression and barbarity with which the current order has tied its existence and survival and imposed an atmosphere of suffocation on society."
It is also reported from the University of Tehran that a large group of protesters chanted "Death to the dictator" on Monday. On this day, protest rallies were held at Tehran University of Arts, Tabatabaei University, Tarbiat Modares University, and the University of Isfahan.
At Tehran University, protesters also chanted the slogan "Our streets are covered in blood, our professors are choked with blood."
In addition to Tehran University and Amir Kabir University, Tasnim News Agency reported student gatherings at Beheshti and Modares Universities in Tehran, and based on videos posted on social media, students from Allameh University have also joined the protesters.
Shopkeepers' strikes and arrests
According to reports, the scope of strikes and protest rallies over the past few days over the death of Mahsa (Zina) Amini expanded on Monday and has included more cities.
There are reports from the cities of Saqqez, Sanandaj, Baneh, Kamyaran, and Marivan in Kurdistan Province, and the cities of Urmia, Mahabad, Bukan, Sardasht, and Oshnaviyeh in West Azerbaijan Province, Kermanshah and Javanroud in Kermanshah Province, and Mohammadshahr of Karaj in Alborz Province that many businessmen in these cities have gone on strike and closed their shops.
This is despite the fact that, according to information received, security officers had threatened shopkeepers and businessmen in Marivan and Saqqez in their nightly calls that if they did not open their shops as usual on Monday, their businesses would be sealed.
The Kurdistan Human Rights Network, Kurdpa, also reports that on Sunday, a citizen named "Shahu Iqbal" was arrested by security forces and taken to an unknown location after participating in protests against the death of Mahsa (Zina) Amini on Bahman 6th Street in Sanandaj.
The report also says that Lotfollah Ahmadi, a civil activist and member of the "Chelchmeh" mountaineering group, was arrested in Sanandaj on Sunday evening, and his family does not know where he is being held.
It has also been reported that Frank Rafiei, an environmental activist from Sanandaj, was arrested during a rally held yesterday in Azadi (Iqbal) Square in Sanandaj to protest the death of Mahsa Amini.
Reports also indicate a security atmosphere prevailing in Kermanshah and a widespread presence of special forces throughout the city. According to the Hengaw report, most shopkeepers in Kermanshah have been threatened by security agencies not to participate in the nationwide strike on Monday.
Meanwhile, mobile internet is disrupted or completely cut off in the cities of Baneh, Marivan, Sanandaj, and many cities in northwestern Iran.
On the other hand, it is reported that Behzad Rahimi, a representative from Saqqez and Baneh in the parliament, intended to speak at the Fatiha reading ceremony for Mahsa Amini, but was opposed by those present and was not allowed to do so.
Protesters over the death of Mahsa Amini have also issued calls for gatherings and protests in the cities of Isfahan and Tabriz on Monday.
According to reports, protest programs are also scheduled to be held on Monday at Tehran's Sharif University of Technology.
Mahsa Amini, who had traveled to Tehran from Saqqez with her family, died on September 15, three days after being arrested by Ershad Patrol officers, in Kasra Hospital in Tehran, and her body was buried in Saqqez on Saturday amid public protests.
According to Kasra Hospital, when the 22-year-old was transferred to the hospital, his vital signs were not visible.
