"Two charges" against woman arrested after kicking turban

Mohammad Taqi Hosseini, deputy secretary of the Qom Headquarters for Encouraging Righteousness and Forbidding Evil, confirmed the arrest of a woman who kicked her turban in protest at a person's remark about the hijab and his treatment, saying that she had insulted the Ministry for Encouraging Righteousness and Forbidding Evil and had "also insulted the sacred garment of the clergy."

According to him, each of these cases is condemned in its own right and deserves special consideration.

Mohammad Taghi Hosseini told ILNA news agency that the woman is currently in custody. The process of completing her case is underway to ultimately send it to court.

The official from the Qom Headquarters for Promoting Good and Preventing Evil did not provide further details about the date of the woman's arrest and the place where she was detained, saying: "The essence of this case is not new, and only the video of it has recently been published in cyberspace."

Two days ago, a video titled "Kicking the Turban of a Disturbing Mullah" was posted on social media by a citizen from Qom, showing a man attacking a woman with a stick and telling her to wear her hijab. In response, the woman removes his turban and kicks him underfoot.

Mohammad Taghi Hosseini has said that these people should be dealt with seriously, because if this does not happen, no one may give a verbal warning and they may say, "We no longer enjoin good and forbid evil."
