Two Abadan Refinery Managers Arrested for Being Members of an "Employment Gang"

Security officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran arrested two managers of Phase 2 of the Abadan Refinery for being members of an "embezzlement gang."

Iranian media reported on Thursday, November 10, that these two "prominent managers" were arrested at their workplace on Wednesday evening, following a judicial order.

Embezzlement and corruption of managers in government and public institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran has become a controversial issue over the past three decades.

Last month, the former governor of the Central Bank and his deputy were sentenced to 10 and 8 years in prison, respectively, for "disrupting the country's currency system."

The United States has repeatedly condemned widespread and institutionalized corruption in the institutions of the Islamic Republic, citing it as one of the most important factors in the numerous economic problems of the Iranian people.
