Reuters: US considers removing IRGC from list of terrorist groups

Reuters news agency, citing informed sources, claimed that the United States is considering removing the Revolutionary Guard Corps from the list of terrorist groups.

The United States is considering removing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps from a list of foreign terrorist organizations in exchange for guarantees that Tehran-backed militias will be reined in, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Wednesday.

The source added that Washington has not yet decided what commitment from Tehran might be acceptable.

The Revolutionary Guard Corps was added to the United States' terrorist blacklist by former US President Donald Trump in 2019, and its removal from the list could draw strong criticism from Republicans.

The IRGC was the first official military institution of a country to be included in this list.

This comes after it was previously reported that Tehran had requested the removal of the Revolutionary Guard Corps from this list as one of the conditions of the agreement.
