An earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale in northeastern Iran left two dead and 400 injured.

According to Iranian domestic news agencies, the earthquake occurred on Saturday night, May 13, in North Khorasan Province, 22 kilometers from the city of Bojnourd.

Taghi Dowlatabadi, head of the Emergency and Disaster Management Center at North Khorasan University of Medical Sciences, said that two people died and 400 were injured in the incident. Of these injured, 177 were hospitalized and the rest were discharged after treatment.

Images from Iranian news agencies show that most of the earthquake damage occurred in the villages of North Khorasan, resulting in the destruction of homes.

Following the earthquake, an Iranian government delegation ordered an investigation into the situation of the victims. Ali Rabiei, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, also traveled to the region to represent the government.

Khorasan Razavi Province and its capital, Bojnourd, are considered to be earthquake-prone areas in Iran. In 1997, an earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale shook the region, causing significant financial and human losses.

In April of this year, a magnitude 6 earthquake shook the city of Fariman near Mashhad, leaving two dead and dozens injured.
