5.4 magnitude earthquake in Hormozgan Province; landslide and dispatch of assessment teams

According to reports from Iran, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the city of Ruydar in the port of Khamir, Hormozgan Province, injuring a number of citizens and causing a landslide on the outskirts of Ruydar.

City officials say the earthquake caused no casualties, but at least two people were injured.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 16 kilometers, at 1:30 a.m. on March 16.

Ruydar is located 70 kilometers west of Bandar Abbas, the capital of Hormozgan Province.

Two weeks ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake occurred in Bastak County in the same province.

The CEO of the Hormozgan Red Crescent Society told Mehr News Agency that a number of residential structures in the Ruydar area have been damaged due to a landslide.

Two assessment teams have reportedly been dispatched to the region.

The mountain collapsed in the outskirts of the city of Ruyder, and boulders are said to have hit the walls of some houses in the area.

A Roeder City Council member says some residential structures have suffered up to 50 percent damage.

Local reports indicate that tremors from the earthquake were also felt in Bandar Abbas, Bandar Khamir, Minab, and Qeshm, as well as the United Arab Emirates.
