US sanctions Iran's Revolutionary Guards' "currency network"

The US Treasury Department has sanctioned a “currency network” belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps, which it says has converted and smuggled millions of dollars for the benefit of the Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The US Treasury Department announced in a statement on Thursday (April 10) that it had added a network of nine Iranian individuals and companies to its sanctions list. The US Treasury Secretary said that the network, in cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, was involved in converting and transferring currency for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The sanctions, which include six Iranian individuals and three Iranian companies, have been added to the US sanctions list as part of the fight against terrorism. US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says the network converted hundreds of millions of dollars into other foreign currencies. According to him, the Central Bank of Iran also cooperated in providing the network with access to foreign bank accounts.

Miqdad Amini, Mohammad Hassan Khodai, Saeed Najafpour, Masoud Nikbakht, Fawad Salehi, Mohammad Reza Khedmati and the Jahan Aras Kish Company, Mohammad Reza Khedmati and Partners Cooperative, and Rashed Exchange are the individuals and companies sanctioned.

The US Treasury Department has frozen the assets of these individuals and companies in US jurisdiction and prohibited US citizens from doing financial transactions with them.

The US Treasury Department statement also warned citizens of foreign countries that they may be subject to US sanctions if they cooperate with these individuals and companies to transfer money.
