Penal Organization: Organized crime in car imports has been confirmed

Iran's "Government Penal Organization" announced that "organized crime has been proven" in the case of illegal car imports, and that the organization has referred the case to the Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office, declaring its "incompetence."

According to Mizan News Agency, Abdul Majid Ejtihady, Director General of Prevention and Supervision of Goods and Currency Smuggling Affairs at the Government Penal Organization, told Mizan News Agency on Thursday, July 4, that the case of illegal car imports has been sent to the Tehran Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office after the organization was issued a ruling denying it jurisdiction.

From July 18 to January 29, 2017, while the Ministry of Industry's vehicle import order registration site was closed, 6,481 vehicle orders were registered on this site.

About two months ago, Mojtaba Khosrowtaj, head of the Trade and Development Organization, confirmed that about six thousand cars had been ordered illegally.

After that, Nasser Siraj, the head of the country's General Inspectorate, announced that the illegal registration of these vehicles was due to the hacking of the order registration site. After these statements, the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade denied that the site was hacked.

However, the newspaper "Sharq" reported that the Ministry of Industry and Mines website was not hacked, but rather the "mastermind" of this incident was a person named "Kh" who held a position in the Trade Organization.

According to Shargh, the person in question, along with two others, managed to register “more than five thousand orders” by logging into the Ministry of Industry and Mines website and received “from five to 20 million Tomans” for each order. Shargh wrote that the three are currently in detention.

Now, Abdul Majid Ijtihady, Director General of Prevention and Supervision of Goods and Currency Smuggling Affairs at the Government Penal Organization, says: "Organized crime was established in this case and ultimately the case was sent to the Islamic Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of Tehran with a ruling of incompetence."

The official from the Government Penal Organization stated that 6,481 fake computer licenses were issued to import these vehicles, and the applicants were 274 legal or natural persons.

According to Abdul Majid Ijtihadi, the total number of vehicles that have been cleared from customs from this order registration location is 1,924, with 155 vehicles being blocked from being cleared after a criminal complaint was filed.

On the other hand, following the revelation of this violation, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani gave Industry Minister Mohammad Shariatdari two weeks to investigate the violation, and on Wednesday, he finally appointed a committee responsible for investigating the illegal registration of these imported vehicles and the clearance of 1,924 of them.
