131 people infected with the mutated coronavirus identified in East Azerbaijan; the highest number in Iran

The Deputy Minister of Health of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences announced on Sunday, March 14, the identification of 131 cases of the mutated coronavirus of British origin in East Azerbaijan.

According to Abbas Ali Dostri, this is the highest number of patients infected with the mutated strain of coronavirus in the country.

He added: "These individuals have been identified in the cities of Ahar, Bostan Abad, Marand, Shabestar, Azarshahr, and Haris."

This official from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences stated that the reason for the spread of this type of coronavirus in Haris County was the holding of mourning ceremonies and the presence of guests from Tehran at the ceremony.

He called on people to refrain from holding ceremonies and gatherings in the province so that the "relatively stable" situation of coronavirus control in East Azerbaijan continues.

Accordingly, 22 people died from COVID-19 last week, an average of three people per day, and the number of coronavirus deaths in this province has been decreasing.

Abbas Ali Dostri also confirmed the sealing of "700 different units" due to violations of health protocols to combat the coronavirus, referring to inspections conducted in various industries in the province.

Earlier that day, the spokesperson for the National Coronavirus Task Force announced the spread of the mutated virus in 29 provinces and the identification of 538 cases of the virus in the country.

Thus, the total number of Covid-19 victims in the country reached 61,230, and the total number of patients reached 1,746,953.

However, the accuracy of official statistics has been seriously questioned since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak. According to estimates by the Iranian Medical System Organization, the number of coronavirus victims in the country is at least three to four times higher than the official figure announced by the Ministry of Health.
