National Council of Resistance of Iran: IRGC Quds Force trains militias inside the country and sends them abroad

The National Council of Resistance of Iran, the political wing of the People’s Mojahedin Organization, presented information at a ceremony about the structure and naval units of proxy groups affiliated with the Islamic Republic’s Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force. The opposition group says the IRGC’s Quds Force has created proxy naval units and sends non-Iranian militants to their countries after training in Zibakanar.

In this meeting, which was held on Wednesday, February 4, in Washington, representatives of the National Council of Resistance of Iran announced that the Quds Force's facilities and capabilities are used to carry out terrorist acts mainly in areas where the Yemeni Houthis are active. Their goal is to target commercial ships, especially in the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

Alireza Jafarzadeh, deputy head of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) office in the US, said in a speech at the meeting that the information provided was collected by the People's Mojahedin (MEK), and that the members of the units trained by the IRGC's Quds Force were recruited from Yemen, Syria, Lebanon, and African countries including Somalia and Djibouti. He added: "The facilities where they are trained are located in Ziba Kenar on the Caspian coast and the Qeshm and Faroe Islands in the Persian Gulf."

In response to a question from the Persian service of the Voice of America about "what message does the information leaked by this group carry for the region and the world," this senior official of the National Council of Resistance of Iran said: "This disclosure shows that the Iranian regime continues to be the main threat to the region and the world, and while eighty percent of the people in Iran are below the poverty line, it spends a significant portion of the country's income on proxy groups."

Also, in response to another question about what the "National Council of Resistance of Iran" wants from Congress and the White House at this time, Mr. Jafarzadeh referred to last night's remarks by Bob Menendez, the senior Democratic senator and a partisan of the US President who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and said that the nature of the government in Iran is terrorist and that there should be no negotiations with this country.

On February 3, Senator Menendez called on the Biden administration, which is engaged in indirect negotiations with Iran to revive the JCPOA, to adopt a new policy to confront the Islamic Republic's nuclear and missile programs and its support for its proxy groups, and announced his opposition to the negotiations to revive the JCPOA.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has not yet responded to this meeting of the National Council of Resistance of Iran.

The National Council of Resistance of Iran has held meetings in the past about nuclear sites and covert activities of the Islamic Republic. Earlier, in October, at a ceremony in Washington, the National Council of Resistance released information about the Quds Force’s drone programs and the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ drone manufacturing and production network.
