Plan to deploy clerics in banks approved by Ali Khamenei

Ali Khamenei approved the plan to "deploy clerics in banks" as cultural and religious planners.

Yousef Tabatabaei, the representative of the Leader of the Islamic Republic in Isfahan, spoke about the “plan to establish clerics in banks,” which he referred to as “cultural and religious planners.” This plan, which was announced last year by Gholamreza Mesbahi Moghadam, the head of the Central Bank’s Jurisprudential Council, and approved by Ali Khamenei, drew many critical reactions after news about it was published, to the point that officials denied implementing it.

Yousef Tabatabaei said yesterday, Wednesday, September 15, in a gathering of managers and deputies of Sepah Bank branches in Isfahan: "Although I do not agree with the departure of educated clerics and cultural elites from the seminary because they distance themselves from lessons and discussions, the presence of a number of clerics in the system and government institutions such as banks, including Sepah Bank, is a necessity, and this does not prevent clerics from continuing their religious studies, because there is the possibility of recording teaching files and virtual education for them."

He also stated regarding the provision of bank loans to citizens: "Loans should not be given to all people, but rather to those who have the ability to repay. The billions in arrears of banks are due to the managers' inattention to this issue."

His statements regarding the provision of banking facilities to citizens were made while corruption cases from the past have shown that bank arrears were due to the allocation of large loans to government-affiliated individuals. Also, contrary to his statements, all banks are so strict about providing facilities, even in very small amounts, to ordinary citizens that many people are discouraged from taking loans, and the provision of facilities is only done to government officials and their agents without any strictness and with huge amounts of money.

The regime, with its recent actions, including the removal of experienced and specialized professors and replacing them with non-specialists, the arrest and imprisonment of educated and critical individuals, the arrest of journalists, human rights activists, etc., has not only made itself a laughing stock among the public, but has now made an unwise decision to install clerics in banks. The regime itself does not know what it wants from the government, the state, and the nation, and has so far acted contrary to human rights laws and the constitution, and is looking for a solution to continue its broken monarchy.
