Complaint filed against the person who released the video of a minor girl's marriage

The Chief Justice of Bahmai County, one of the cities in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces, announced the filing of a lawsuit against a citizen accused of publishing a video of a minor girl's marriage.

According to Ali Saeedi, the family of the young girl says that one of their neighbors, who had a "history of hostility towards them," posted the video on social media.

This judicial authority has referred to the act of publishing the aforementioned video as a "crime."

The video of this 9-year-old girl's marriage was released online on Monday, September 1, and sparked widespread negative reactions.

The film shows the wedding celebration of a girl of about 9 years old in the village of Likke, Bahmai, wearing a local wedding dress, and the families enthusiastically haggle and joke about the "subliminal" payment, and finally the little girl says "yes" and everyone cheers.

After the widespread coverage of this film, judicial authorities in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces announced that the marriage had been dissolved and that "the actions of the couple, the wife's guardian, and the person committing the marriage were considered a crime based on Article 50 of the Family Protection Law, and have been reported to the Bahmai City Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office and the Special Prosecutor's Office for Clergy for appropriate legal action."

However, the young girl's family is now the plaintiff themselves.

The Chief Justice of Bahmai County has said that after reviewing the complaint and identifying the accused, "appropriate judicial action will be taken."

There have been previous calls for action against the publishers of controversial films. In December 2018, after the release of a film of a Saravan MP clashing with a customs official in parliament, some members of parliament called for legal action against the publisher of the film.

In June of last year, after news was published about the rape of several women in Iranshahr city, Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the Attorney General of the country, said that the person who published the news would be prosecuted.

No report has been published on the fate of these cases so far.
