The Chief Justice of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province announced the issuance of more than 1,390 alternative sentences to imprisonment during the first eight months of this year.
According to HRANA news agency, citing Mizan, an official announced that more than 1,390 alternative sentences to imprisonment were issued during the first eight months of this year.
The Chief Justice of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province stated: “More than 1,390 alternative sentences to imprisonment have been issued by the judicial courts of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province in the first eight months of this year in order to reduce the prison population, focusing on implementing 8 measures: suspension of sentence execution, (simple) suspension of sentence issuance, (supervision) suspension of sentence issuance, semi-freedom system under the supervision of electronic systems, reversal and issuance of conviction, supervision period, confirmation of sentence with reduced sentence, and daily cash fines.”
Bahrami stated that issuing alternative punishments to imprisonment will lead to a transformation of the judicial system, noting that the decisions issued include the obligation to perform free public service, a period of supervision, deprivation of social rights, and monitoring under electronic systems.
It is worth noting that with the approval of the new Islamic Penal Code, alternative punishments have been mentioned in its ninth chapter.
According to this law, judges can use alternative punishments to imprisonment, depending on the circumstances of the accused and certain conditions; for example, one of the conditions for implementing this law is the consent of the convicted person.
