Two Iranian warships pass near Denmark in the Baltic Sea

According to the Danish Navy, the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy frigate Makran and frigate Sahand have been spotted in the Baltic Sea. They are said to be heading towards the port of St. Petersburg.
The Associated Press reported, citing the Danish Navy, that the largest ship of the Islamic Republic of Iran's navy, as well as an Iranian frigate, have been spotted in the waters of the Baltic Sea.
The Makran helicopter carrier is one of the newest vessels of the Islamic Republic of Iran's army.
On Thursday, July 22, the Danish Navy released images of the ship and the frigate Sahand passing through the Fehmarnbelt Strait and near the island of Bornholm, which belongs to Denmark.
The strait is located in the waters of the Baltic Sea between Denmark and Germany.
According to Iranian news agencies, including IRNA, the mission of the Makran frigate and the Sahand frigate is to attend the ceremony marking the 325th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Navy, and their participation in the ceremony is being held at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
It is said that Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy, is also scheduled to attend the ceremony, which will be held on Sunday (July 25).
According to the Associated Press, the Makran frigate and the Sahand frigate left Bandar Abbas in May of this year and, after bypassing the waters of southern Africa, headed for the Atlantic Ocean.
Maxar has released satellite images showing seven speedboats, commonly used in IRGC naval operations, on board the Macron frigate. The boats are covered, the Associated Press reported.
It was initially reported that the vessels were headed to Venezuela. At the time, the United States had warned Venezuela and Cuba about the Islamic Republic's ships docking in their ports.
The Makran frigate, a support ship capable of carrying helicopters, was unveiled in January of last year (2020).
