Ali Motahari to run for 2021 presidential election

Ali Motahari, a former member of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, announced his candidacy for the 2021 presidential elections in Iran.

ISNA news agency published this news on Thursday, March 27.

Mr. Motahari represented Tehran in the eighth, ninth, and tenth terms of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, but was disqualified in the eleventh parliamentary election.

Considered a conservative figure in the fields of culture and hijab, she has openly criticized the government's policies in recent years and distanced herself from conservatives in the political arena.

The 13th presidential election in Iran is scheduled to be held on June 18, 1402, simultaneously with the sixth round of elections for Islamic city and village councils in Iran.

According to the law, Hassan Rouhani is not entitled to participate in these elections due to his two consecutive terms as president of Iran.

Previously, Hossein Dehghan, former Minister of Defense and military advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Republic, and Mustafa Kawakbian, Secretary General of the Democracy Party, have also officially announced their candidacies to participate in this round of elections.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Saeed Mohammad, the Commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, are also mentioned as other possible candidates.
