Human rights, political and labor activists detained in Tehran released

Reports from Tehran indicate that a number of human, political, civil, and labor rights activists who were arrested on Tuesday evening have been released.

These activists were arrested after they planned to hold a rally in front of the Ministry of Interior in Tehran in support of the recent demonstrations in Khuzestan Province.

The arrests of Narges Mohammadi, Arash Sadeghi, Rasoul Badaghi, Arash Kaykhosravi, Pouran Nazemi, Jafar Azimzadeh, Ruhollah Mardani, Hamid Asefi, and Behzad Homayuni were carried out with violence.

According to a video that has been released, before the arrest of these activists, Ms. Mohammadi, referring to the beating of a number of them, had said that a number of former prisoners, civil activists, peace mothers, and grieving mothers had planned to gather in front of the Ministry of Interior to protest the "massacre" of the "homeless, innocent, and thirsty" people of Khuzestan. They were beaten, and for this reason, they are marching towards Zaratosht Street in Tehran.

Demonstrations and protests began six days ago in several cities in Khuzestan province. The slogans chanted in these demonstrations were mainly in protest against water shortages in the western cities of the province, but now, as the protests spread to the eastern regions of the province, they have taken on a political color, and protesters are calling for the overthrow of the Islamic Republic.
