The beginning of the US "flood of new sanctions" against Iran

The United States has sanctioned four individuals and six companies for allegedly purchasing sensitive items for the Telecommunications Industries Company of Iran. The US Treasury Department imposed these individuals and companies in line with the Trump administration’s “maximum pressure” policy against Iran.

After the US presidential election, the Trump administration threatened that a "flood of new sanctions" was coming and that it would impose a new sanction against Iran every week.

Elliott Abrams, the US State Department's special representative for Iran and Venezuela, spoke about these sanctions during his visit to Israel on Sunday, November 8, in a meeting with Israeli officials.

The US Treasury Department has now implemented these threats and placed Iranian and Taiwanese nationals and several companies based in Iran, Singapore, China, and Hong Kong on its sanctions list.

According to the US Treasury Department, the sanctioned individuals and companies were “a procurement network for an Iranian military company” and were purchasing “highly sensitive items” for the Telecommunications Industries of Iran company.

The Treasury Department designates the Telecommunications Industries Corporation of Iran as a military company. The company was sanctioned in the United States in 2008 and in the European Union two years later.

The US Treasury Department's list of sanctioned individuals also includes the names of two Iranians, Mohammad Banihashemi and Mohammad Soltanmohammadi, Iranian citizens, and Chinhua Huang and Shi Mei Sun, Taiwanese citizens.

The list of sanctioned companies also clearly states the names and locations of these companies.

New US sanctions against Iran were imposed just days after the presidential election. Lifting these sanctions would be difficult for the new US administration, as they are said to have been unrelated to the JCPOA.

Before the election, Joe Biden announced in an interview with CNN in September that if he wins the US election, the country will once again return to the nuclear agreement with Iran.
