Honor killing: Student girl murdered by brother

In recent days, a female student in the city of Bank, Kangan County, Bushehr Province, was murdered by her brother in what is known as an honor killing. Iranian law includes provisions to exempt those who commit “honor killings” from severe punishment.
According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists Association in Iran, in recent days, a female student in the city of Kangan, Bushehr province, was murdered by her brother in what was called an honor killing.
The identity of this female student, “Zahra Nasuri,” has been confirmed by HRANA.
Zahra Nasuri was studying at Shahid Mohammad Tashani Girls' High School in Kangan (Bank City).
A source familiar with the murder of this teenage girl told HRANA: "Zahra Nasuri was killed by her brother a few days ago in an honor killing. The forensic report also states that she was strangled. Unfortunately, murders similar to Zahra's have occurred in this area before. An uncle of the same family threw his daughter into a well a few years ago and her body was found a few days later. Suicide attempts are unfortunately common among students in this area."
Banak is a city in the central part of Kangan County, Bushehr Province, located in southwestern Iran.
Honor crimes or honor killings refer to the violence and often murder of women in a family by their male relatives.
These women are punished for “disgracing the honor of their family.” This dishonor can include a variety of things, including refusing to marry, being the victim of rape, being divorced (even from an unworthy husband), having sex with the opposite sex, or committing adultery. For someone to be a victim of honor crimes, it is enough to be perceived as having brought dishonor upon the family.
