Maragheh; A prisoner was publicly executed

HRANA News Agency – Today, Thursday, June 24, the sentence of a prisoner who had previously been sentenced to death on charges of “rape” was carried out in public in Maragheh.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, today, Thursday, June 24, 2023, a prisoner was publicly executed in Maragheh.

This prisoner had previously been sentenced to death by a judicial authority on the charge of "rape."

The Fars News Agency reported that the first name of this prisoner, who was arrested in 2016, is "Amir Mehdi."

This person's death sentence, after being confirmed by the Supreme Court, was carried out today in one of the city's squares.

According to the annual report of the Center for Statistics, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran in 2022, 457 reports have been registered, including 92 people sentenced to death, including 6 sentenced in public, and 565 executed. Of these, 2 were executed in public. Also, 5 people who were under the age of 18 at the time of committing the alleged crime, and who are called child criminals in legal terminology, were also among those executed this year.
